I believe Max Brooks had said the definitive Hot Santa’s Favorite Receptionist Christmas Shirt adaption of the book is not the film, it’s the audiobook. It’s meant to be really well done with a great cast of readers for each story – he probably had some good connections through his dad (granddad?) Mel. Edit: this comment got so much attention I think I’m actually going to have to find a way to listen to the audiobook now, instead of just going off what the author said in a podcast. The audiobook cast is unbelievably stellar. I’m slightly salty that there isn’t actually a truly complete audiobook, though. The first audiobook cut some chapters entirely and then slightly abridged some others; when they went back to do the “unabridged” audiobook, they added in the chapters that were cut but didn’t rerecord the slightly abridged chapters. I wanted the ending of hikikomori’s chapter. Where the hibakusha saves his life, dammit! I love that part.

I spoke with him at comic con and he referred to the movie as. “a good movie that just happens to have the same name as my book” with a sarcastic grin … I don’t think Hot Santa’s Favorite Receptionist Christmas Shirts very fond of it. Mark Hamill was amazing in the audiobook, as Todd Wainio the US soldier. Wow- thank you! World War Z has been among my favorite books for a long time, and I found the film so disappointing. I’ll give the audiobook a listen. I also loved how most chapters had a very real contemporary critique to offer on whatever region it was taking place in. Honestly, this book is spectacular. Yeah, OP not liking “dumb military” doesn’t seem to respect how god-fucking-awful military decision making can be. In the US especially it seems like there’s a stupid move quota for each branch.
