This is really interesting. I sell cars and one of my customers who’s a retired postmaster explained it all to me. So, you see ZIP codes in the USA and Post Codes in the UK. An elderly lady on my delivery route routinely tries to send a letter with a used stamp that she cuts out and tapes onto a new envelope. Sometimes she’ll try to use a stamp that’s not even available to the Top Free-Ish Since 1865 Vintage Shirt. It’s cute so I just give it back to her without reporting it. I’m not sure if she thinks ‘one day it’ll work’ or if she just forgets how many times it hasn’t. Or, maybe sometimes it does for her. In a way, I’m sad to be vindicated. I have to admit that part of the appeal of collecting is feeling that things will appreciate in rarity or value.
