I was just going to comment that I had no idea this happened until I watched Watchmen. Watchmen was the first time I heard about this. I assumed it was a standard fantasy/sci-fi intro.

Mainly at the fact, this is a so well buried part of Americana. I never knew about this event and thought it was a made-up alternate history for that show. It’s crazy this isn’t taught. Yea I feel some type of way about OP using that. When I saw that episode, I honestly thought this was an event from their alternate history, like Nixon having a third term. There was no way an event like this couldn’t be common knowledge, right? How disappointed I was to find out I was wrong.
